The Risks of Driving with a Damaged Motor Mount

Your motorcycle mounts do the job of keeping your motorcycle in the frame of the bike. If you have ever ridden a bike with a broken or worn out motor mount, you know that there is a lot of extra vibration that can occur when you have a motor mount failure. This is a common issue with certain Harley Davidson® models.

The unbalanced motors that give Harley Davidson® that unforgettable sound also is responsible for all of that vibration traveling through the frame. This vibration can cause numerous failures if you are not maintaining your bike on a regular basis. Cracked or broken motor mounts, exhaust mounts, lost air cleaner bolts, broken carb manifolds. All of these issues are the result of all that vibration going through the frame and wreaking havoc on your bike.

How long do engine mounts last?

Vibration is the enemy of your motorcycle engine mounts and keeping a close eye on those mounts is a good practice. Making sure the mount bolts are tightened to spec and checking for hairline cracks or other signs of failure should be done a few times a year depending on how often you ride your bike. If you do notice a crack or the beginning of a failure, you should replace that motorcycle engine mount right away.
